SAD 31 Board of Directors passes $9.3M budget proposal

HOWLAND -- The School Administrative District 31 Board of Directors unanimously approved a $9.3 million proposed budget for fiscal year 2027 at a special meeting held April 29. The budget proposal represents a 6.5% increase from the budget for fiscal year 2026, which ends June 30.

Chester selectmen discuss roadsides, comprehensive plan

CHESTER -- The Chester Board of Selectmen held a brief meeting April 28, discussing clearing roadsides, requesting bids for snow removal and the planning board's work on developing a comprehensive plan.

Local dispensary owners get law passed reducing required cannabis testing

Michael Tipping, were able to get legislation introduced and passed by the Legislature. Bobbie and Matt Stormann, married owners of Just Baked dispensary, accessible off of the northern section of Goding Ave, said the process of following through on legislation from the conception of an idea to the final passage of a bill and enactment of law, was an elightening lesson in civic engagement.

Enfield Selectboard prepares for summer, annual town meeting

ENFIELD -- The Enfield Selectboard approved a construction contact for Morgan's Beach, signed up with a real estate broker to sell tax-acquired properties and moved forward with a fiscal year 2027 budget draft in preparation for the annual town meeting held in June.

Medway selectmen hold budget workshop

MEDWAY - Medway Selectmen met in a budget workshop to take a last look at the proposed 2026-2027 budgets. Public Works Supervisor Greg Hale presented another version of his budget that includes a three percent wage increase for employees because the board has not given any direction on whether or not it was going to approve raises. The budget also represents a reduction of $8,350 from the first reading of his budget.

Maine PUC sets case schedule into 2027 for Maine Water Company rate hike request

HALLOWELL—Maine Public Utilities Commission last week set a case schedule that will extend into 2027 a request filed by Maine Water Company to increase its rates by 27.9 percent for all of its operating divisions, including Millinocket.

EAST MILLINOCKET - East Millinocket Police Corporal Brad Fitzgerald met with selectmen to go over final 2025 East Millinocket Police Department statistics. Fitzgerald apologized for the lateness of his report but he wanted the board to know what’s going on and for taxpayers to know what their money is paying for.

County Commissioner Marshall talks to East board about county budget, county jail costs

EAST MILLINOCKET - Penobscot County Commissioner David Marshall stopped by the East Millinocket Board of Selectmen’s meeting to answer any questions the town may have on the county budget. The county found itself in a massive budget deficit and East Millinocket saw it’s taxes to the county increase over 30 percent.

Davis, Worster get until June 1 to file responses to summary judgment motions

MILLINOCKET/BANGOR—A federal judge last week granted in part a motion filed by former Millinocket Town Manager Harold “John” Davis and former Millinocket Police Chief Craig Worster seeking additional time to file responses to summary judgment motions in their civil lawsuit.

Audit work continues in Medway

MEDWAY - Medway Selectmen continue to wait for information on the progress of the town’s past due audits. The board needs the audits to be done so they can move forward with needed town spending especially with paving.

Medway board approves regional recreation framework

MEDWAY - Medway Selectmen approved the proposed “Tri-Town Regional Recreation Programming Framework” between Medway, Millinocket and East Millinocket. Board members received a copy of the framework the previous week and took the time between meetings to review it. They said it was well written and basically contained a common sense approach for recreation directors to work together.

East schools accept music contract with Medway
